Delete your account

You can ask for your account and the data attached to it to be erased. You do not need to install the app to do it, and there is no fee.

If you can sign in

Deleting the account yourself is immediate and needs no request. Sign in, open your profile, and use the delete section: you type the confirmation word and the erasure runs straight away.

If you cannot sign in

Write to us instead. So that nobody can close somebody else's account, we verify that the request comes from the address that owns it before anything is erased, and we answer within one month.

  • Send the message from the email address the account was created with.
  • State clearly that you are asking for the account to be deleted.
  • If you signed in with Google, say so, and use that Google address.

What is erased

Your account and the data attached to it: your profile and sign-in credentials, your subscription and payment records, your reading progress, your notifications and registered devices, your chat conversations, your forum likes, votes, reports and blocks, your basket and waitlist entries, your session recordings and your analytics profile.

What is kept, and why

Deletion is not total, and the exceptions are stated here rather than buried. What we keep, we keep because the law requires it or because removing it would damage someone else.

  • Orders you placed, including the email address given at checkout, are kept as accounting records. A financial record that a customer can erase is not a financial record. No expiry is currently enforced on them.
  • If you unsubscribed from our emails, your address stays on the do-not-contact list. A suppression list that forgets you starts emailing you again. No expiry is currently enforced on it.
  • The security log of actions taken on the account is kept for 365 days, with your account identifier removed and your address scrubbed from it.
  • Proof of which version of our terms and privacy policy you accepted is kept for three years after closure, as the law requires us to be able to demonstrate consent.
  • Forum topics and replies you posted remain, without an author. Removing them would tear holes in conversations other members took part in.
